CL cuts back ‘Grazing’ after 20+ years
I received bad news from Creative Loafing today. The new editor has decided to discontinue my “Grazing” column, which I’ve written over 20 years. The reason was financial, according to dining editor Besha Rodell, who was given the task of informing me.
I may be writing a monthly version and will likely continue posting on the Omnivore blog.
This comes at a time when my (unconventional) psychology practice has also severely dipped. Before this news, I was already poorer than I’ve been since my 20s. So, I’m looking for work — part-time, freelance or full-time.
I’ll be writing more later.

I’ve read you for years. In fact, you’re about the only thing I read in Creative Loafing anymore and I’m betting that’s true for a lot of other people too. I used to love your Headcase column and was shocked when they eliminated that. But how dumb can the new editor over there be to cancel Grazing?
You are among the best writers in Atlanta with a huge following. I hope this turns out to be a good thing and you start writing about more than food.

Is this a joke? You’re way better than that rag, which is like a fucking zombie — half dead and needs to be put out of its misery. Even the food issue they put out this week was LAME.
PS: Your cover story for them about the AIDS epidemic was the best thing they’ve published in I don’t know how long.
Cliff, I’ve been reading you as long as I can remember — all the way back to the eighties in the AJC, which has become as much a waste of paper as Creative Loafing. I gotta say I was always surprised how long you stayed with them. They’ve had some entertaining writers over the years but none with your “literary” and intellectual bent.Good luck.

We’ve been so caught up with running the show at the restaurant that (we are embarrassed to say) it took us a couple days to get in touch with you and tell you how sorry we were to hear this. Like so many other Atlantans, Grazing was one of the main reasons why we picked up CL as well!

I’m a little late to this one, but like some of the others, your column is the only reason I read anything in Creative Loafing anymore. What a loss for the city! And a paper that may as well be put to rest for good.
