Evidence that wing-nutism is a mental illness

I have written columns in the past about the notion that far-right-wing conservatism has the appearance of mental illness at times. Here’s a case in point with Michelle Bachmann. Her rhetoric is strange enough but her bizarre smiling and silences add to the effect.

A further compounding effect is that Chris Matthews, while repeating the same questions, never really calls her out. He behaves much like a therapist at a diagnostic consultation.

It is difficult to imagine how anyone could have voted this woman into office. But I think the shift in the nation’s priorities, from silly wedge issues to pressing concerns like the economy, probably demonstrates how the guise of “mental health” really is circumstantial in many ways.
